Dylaina Alexandria

Teacher and Performer

Dylaina Alexandria (Young) is a respected professional Belly Dancer and instructor. She teaches in downtown Rochester at Kinections (718 University Ave), at the University of Rochester, and frequently teaches and performs throughout the area, nationally and internationally. She is well versed in many different styles of MENAHT (Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenic (Greek), and Turkish) dance, along with their history and myriad cultures and regions. She performs and teaches Folkloric, Oriental, Tribal Fusion, and Fusion.

Dylaina has a background with early intensive study and performance in Ballet and Modern Dance. She acquired her Bachelor’s Degree in music and dance performance/composition from Bard College, where she also began studying Belly Dance. She fell in love with it, and has since continued her studies specializing in MENAHT dance for the last 20 years.

Dylaina’s performances are dramatic, as she utilizes props such as the stunning Wings of Isis, carefully balances Candle Trays with breath-taking ease, wows onlookers with warrior-like Sword dances, spins an Asaya (cane) skillfully, or plays her finger cymbals with rhythmic precision while dancing.

As an instructor, Dylaina is inspiring, yet relatable. She teaches with a relaxed and loving style, putting new students at ease and helping skilled dancers advance their technique and style.
